Last June The world's biggest startup campus opened in Paris. Based on a former railway depot known as la Halle Freyssinet, the 34,000m2 space will accommodate more than 1,000 startups. The two cofounders Xavier Niel and Roxanne Varza launched this project along with two partner companies Facebook and Microsoft.

This space was conceived to create a sharing and collaborative environment for the start-ups with many different types of workspaces to allow, in parallel, group work but private work as well. Everything from the design to the concept itself was designed along with the different stakeholders including the start-ups to fit everyone’s vision and need.

Station F a startup campus?

Station F has an entire ecosystem on-site with startups, investors, public services, various startup programmes and more. They will also be launching a housing extension for 600 entrepreneurs to live in. So it's in many ways like a university campus - but for startups.

Artificial Intelligence Microsoft's bet for Station F

Opening this campus is also a way for Microsoft to expand its involvement into Artificial Intelligence. Microsoft is already investing in AI research in Europe, with the launch of an AI startup programme and partnering with Station F is yet another brick to this project.

The tech giant plans on lending its expertise and launching an AI programme designed to help startups accelerate their projects. As well as being a startup accelerator this space will become a real incubator for AI ideas, by lending its expertise across different areas and connecting the organizations to the right stakeholders – from science and technology to business, accompanying founders connect with investors, mentors and researchers in the field.

As Jean-Philippe Courtois, Microsoft EVP and president of global sales, marketing and operations, states it in one of his interviews “By helping a new wave of AI-led companies to expand internationally, we further democratise AI and help bring its benefits to more people."
